"As a Nurse Practitioner I don't have as much pressure to see a high volume of patients. This allows me to spend more time with the patient, learn how their health affects their day to day activities and how treatment plans can fit in."

— James Swan, APNP

Jim Swan grew up locally here in Portage and has had the privilege of seeing Divine Savior Healthcare expand to the amazing facility that it is today.

After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Jim continued on for his Masters of Science in Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. "If I wasn't in the medical field I would probably be working outdoors, probably running a campground," Jim said.

After hearing a speaker at his high school on EMS and nursing, Jim made the decision to pursue the medical field. After that, he decided to continue to practice in his hometown and received many certifications in his field. "I enjoy the fact that Portage is small and is my hometown," he said. "We have many outdoor opportunities here."

Jim has been using his skills as a Nurse Practitioner to provide care for our community in areas of Family Medicine and enjoys his practice. "I like seeing patients improving their health and to be able to participate in the activities they want," he tells us.

When able, Jim enjoys taking advantage of the area's recreational activities such as canoeing, camping and hunting. He also appreciates reading and spending time with his family.

The best advice that Jim would share with you if he could: You don't need to know everything, you just need to know when and where to look it up.
