Dr. Murphy has been nothing but stellar! I have been in to see him about three times now...and every time I feel informed, important and taken care of!

"Any treatment I propose I think of whether or not I would recommend this to a family member. I also try to give ample time to each one of my patients and not overbook."

— Dr. Stephen Murphy

Divine Savior Healthcare is proud to have Dr. Murphy on our staff as a Board Certified Podiatric Surgeon.

After receiving his medical degree from Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Murphy completed his residency at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. "My residency director had told me in the past to work hard day to day and strive to treat patients successfully. If you do that, the rest will take care of itself," Dr. Murphy said.

Growing up in the Quad Cities in Illinois was not too entirely different from the rural feeling that Portage provides. Living in the Chicago area after that, however, was not something Dr. Murphy and his wife wanted to continue. "We wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle," he said.

Dr. Murphy enjoys the field of Podiatry for many reasons, some stemming from his own personal experience with foot problems. Being able to relate with the patient motivates Dr. Murphy to find legitimate solutions to problems. "In Podiatry we can often times see improvements in our patients when they walk out of here. It feels good to know that I'm helping people every day."

Addressing the complications that oftentimes occur with diabetes is another special interest of Dr. Murphy's. Overcoming the unique challenges that come with the condition is an area with which he enjoys assisting patients. In his continuing efforts to help patients, Dr. Murphy has also spent time as a volunteer in the fitness center at the Rehab Institute of Chicago.

In his free time, Dr. Murphy enjoys spending time with his wife and young children. His interests include reading and many outdoor activities such as fishing and camping. He is also an avid runner and has finished multiple 100 mile trail runs and Iron Man Triathlons.

If he were not using his talents to give back to the community in the medical field, Dr. Murphy would be giving back in other ways such as through education or sports coaching.
