"Treat others as you would want to be treated. Be respectful."

— Dr. Michael Walters

Dr. Michael Walters has been in or around Wisconsin since moving to Eau Claire at the age of five. The field of medicine sparked his interest after he completed his undergraduate degree in chemistry at Loyola University of Chicago, Illinois.

"I was the first person in my extended family to complete college," Dr. Walters tells us. "Really, no one encouraged me to go into medicine; rather the interest was self-produced and pursued."

After completing his bachelor's degree, he went on to receive his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. His residency in Emergency Medicine was then completed in Indianapolis at the Indiana University of Medicine. While in his residency, Dr. Walters had the opportunity to serve as the Associate Medical Director at Indianapolis Raceway Park, Medical Staff at Indianapolis Moto Speedway, Flight Physician for Lifeline Aeromedical Services and Sideline Physician for the Indianapolis Colts Football Club.

Dr. Walters has previously held Emergency Physician positions in Mississippi and Indiana. He also served in the United States Air Force as a physician and reached the rank of Major.

Prior to joining Divine Savior Healthcare as the Emergency Department Medical Director, Dr. Walters was with the UW Hospital Emergency Department where he served as the Clinical Operations Director. He was also recently a Clinical Associate Professor for the UW School of Medicine and Public Health.

"Divine Savior Healthcare has excellent care, close to home," Dr. Walters states. In addition to this, the local environment is one he appreciates as well. "I like the natural beauty of the area," he says "in particular the Wisconsin River and Lake Wisconsin."

In his free time, Dr. Walters enjoys cooking, NFL football (particularly the Green Bay Packers), home improvement and spending time with his wife and their children.
