“I try to practice preventive medicine and encourage patients to improve their lifestyle in order to prevent disease.”

Dr. Schreiber is a big believer in preventive medicine and healthy lifestyle choices.

“I feel one of the most rewarding aspects of primary care is not only being able to treat and care for patients who become ill or injured, but also to prevent disease by treating screening markers of illness,” he said. “I get great satisfaction by correcting and treating patients preventively in order to avoid long-term effects of uncontrolled hypertension, hyperlipidemia, etc.”

He also encourages patients to get routine checkups and screenings, because early detection and treatment can save lives.

Dr. Schreiber said the best advice he was ever given regarding medicine was by an attending physician during residency who told him to “take the time to listen to your patients.” He follows that advice every day in his practice.

“I try to consider patient values and use shared decision making to develop treatment plans that work with the individual,” he said.

In his free time, Dr. Schrieber enjoys many of the outdoor sports and activities that Portage offers, including the biking trails, skiing, golf and fishing. He’s also a runner and has competed in a number of local triathlons and running and biking events, as well as the Chicago, Milwaukee and New York City marathons.
