DIVINE SAVIOR NEWS

Portage vs. Baraboo Food Fight Challenge turns out to be a slugfest, for a great cause!

Odd Fellows of Portage and Baraboo, WI sponsored a student council food drive—The Food Fight Challenge. Baraboo High School Thunderbirds Student Council challenged Portage High School Warriors Student Council to see who could raise more donations for their respective food banks. The Odd Fellows of Portage and Baraboo, WI donated $100 to the winning student council and $50 to the loser.  Divine Savior Healthcare also donated $100 to the Church pantry, $100 to St. Vincent’s, and $100 to the Portage High School Student Council.

Zach Lewis, employee at Divine Savior Healthcare helps coordinate the food drive at Divine Savior.

The students collected a staggering amount of food that was split between their respective food banks. Although both student councils gained from this, the real winners are the area food banks, who have shared with us that need has never been higher.

Results:

Baraboo

190 lbs of food

$180 in donations.

Portage

350 lbs of food - 160 lbs raised by Divine Savior Healthcare collection bins

$20 in donations.

Since every dollar donated equals 1 lb of food, the Odd Fellows of Portage and Baraboo decided that this all out “Food Fight Challenge” was a draw and split the winnings between the student councils.

Odd Fellow David Sachs, Portage, said, “This was a fun way to help our respective communities, get young adults socially active and really embodies the Odd Fellow's core values.” Odd Fellow Zach Lewis said “ I enjoyed working with the student councils, both communities and of course my brother and sister Odd Fellows.”
