Beginning with the New Year, Divine Savior Healthcare introduced Pulmonary Rehabilitation to the Portage area. The program is designed for people suffering from a chronic lung condition and who are unable to lead full and satisfying lives due to breathing difficulties.
Pulmonary Rehab begins with an evaluation to determine the primary issues that impair your ability to function with everyday activities. Based on the findings of your evaluation, you'll then follow a program of prescribed exercise, education, breathing retraining, nutritional counseling, medical and pharmaceutical management, and emotional support to help you function at your highest capacity.
The program aims to help decrease respiratory symptoms and complications, encourage self-management and control over your daily life, improve your physical condition and exercise performance, improve your emotional well-being, and reduce hospitalizations related to breathing issues.
If you answer "Yes" to any of the following questions, Pulmonary Rehab may be the program for you:
· Do you suffer or know someone who suffers from chronic lung disease, such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), fibrosis, or asthma?
· Does shortness of breath compromise your lifestyle?
· Do you want to learn about ways to improve your breathing?
· Do you want to increase your endurance to perform daily activities with ease?
Divine Savior Healthcare uses a team approach in treating your lung condition and addressing issues specific to your disease. Our Pulmonary Rehab program is staffed by respiratory therapists, registered nurses, and occupational therapists, along with representatives from our dietary, pharmacy, physical therapy, pastoral care, and social services departments.
For more information, please call Divine Savior's Rehab Services Department at (608) 745-6290 to speak with a member of our Pulmonary Rehab staff.
A referral from your physician is required to enter the program. Most insurance plans, including Medicare, do cover Pulmonary Rehab if you have a chronic lung condition. Divine Savior's Rehabilitation Services staff will be happy to assist you in this process so you can get on track toward better lung health.
