“I have a passion for looking for more efficient ways of providing healthcare. I like to look for ways to ‘work smarter’ and not necessarily harder.”
-Michael Conard, PA-C
The University of Wisconsin in Madison was the school of choice for Michael, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. From there, he continued his education and received his Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska.
“If I wasn’t in the medical field I would be teaching high school science or agriculture,” Michael tells us.
In fact, Michael originally chose a different career path, even receiving an additional Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education prior to his degree as a PA-C.
“I had wanted to go into medicine my entire life, but chose a different path initially. While in the US Army, I worked with Physician Assistants. When I got off active duty and joined the National Guard there were two PA’s who encouraged me to pursue a career as a PA,” he says.
Despite the change in career, Wisconsin has been Michael’s home the majority of his life. Growing up in Green Bay, WI, he notes the different feel which is characteristic of a small town.
“Green Bay is more in to Packers’ football and less in to Badgers’ football,” he points out.
Currently, Michael works in Divine Savior Healthcare’s Urgent Care department. Having formerly received an Army Commendation Medal for saving a soldier’s life during combat, Divine Savior Healthcare is proud to have Michael serving our community’s urgent needs.
He is also a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and a former winner of the Wisconsin PA of the Year award. Recently, Michael received a Melvin Jones Fellowship award by the Lions Club International Foundation, their highest award available for humanitarian service.
“Local hospitals are a rarity now,” Michael says of Divine Savior Healthcare. “They truly offer the best mix of compassion and personal touch with good, solid medical care. The partnership that DSH has with the community is unique and wonderful.”
For Michael, the most rewarding aspect of his career is making an impact on someone’s life and health on a daily basis.
Outside of work, Michael truly enjoys the area, especially the geography and historic aspect of the community. Because of his love of history, he also participates in historical reenactments. He is a certified beer judge and judges home brew competitions at county fairs and at the Wisconsin State Fair homebrew competition. In his spare time, Michael is also a home brewer himself, making beer, mead, wine and hard cider. |
