Dr. Melissa Huston completed her residency in Emergency and Internal Medicine at St. James Hospital and Health Centers in Olympia Fields, Illinois. As a board certified emergency physician, Dr. Huston is a valuable asset to Divine Savior’s outstanding Emergency Department.
“My parents were both doctors,” Dr. Huston tells us. “They were my role models and were very supportive.”
Growing up in a suburb in Hinsdale, Illinois, the community was very similiar to ours here in Portage and in her current neighborhood in Madison.
“If I wasn’t a doctor I probably would be in dentistry,” Dr. Huston said about her career choice. “It is still in the medical field though I guess, isn’t it?”
Dr. Huston’s personal views on medicine stem from her belief that medicine should be carried out with kindness and compassion, something she strives to do with each of the interactions she has with her patients.
“We (Divine Savior) provide quality healthcare here,” Dr. Huston said. “I truly believe that.”
Choosing to commute from Madison to provide care to our area, Dr. Huston admires the environment she sees here in Portage.
“I like the people,” she says. “Everybody here is friendly.”
When she is not attending to the emergency needs of our community, Dr. Huston enjoys using her free time to practice photography and work on her oil paintings. Genealogy, skiing, cinema and travel are also other areas that interest her.
