“I try to treat each patient as I would want a family member to be treated if they were seeing a doctor or having surgery.”
-Dr. Erik Schulte
Board Certified OB/GYN- Dr. Erik Schulte is here to serve all the obstetric and gynecologic needs of our community. After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, Dr. Schulte attended De Moines University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery. He followed this with an internship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and completed his residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
“My father influenced me the most. He is also an OB/GYN back home. I saw (the good that) he did for patients and thought I wanted to do this with my life as well.”
Growing up in Omaha, Nebraska wasn’t as different as one would think.
“It is a much larger city, but still had a small town feel to it,” Dr. Schulte said. “If I wasn’t in the medical field though, I’d probably be out playing soccer somewhere.”
Dr. Schulte enjoys getting to know his patients and following them over the course of their lives, including important times like the birth of a child or when a needed surgery comes up.
Relocating to take on the position here at Divine Savior Healthcare was a choice that Dr. Schulte and his family made together.
“Divine Savior is great for the community,” Dr. Schulte says. “We offer excellent medical care with multiple specialties already here, or we provide outreach for patients.”
The most rewarding times for Dr. Schulte?
“Being able to help others and also being able to bring new lives into the world,” he says.
Currently, Dr. Schulte has been sharing his skills even more so with the local community through an opportunity to teach family medicine residents from the University of Wisconsin about OB/GYN.
Outside of his practice, he is very busy helping his wife raise their young triplets. In his free time, Dr. Schulte enjoys a wide variety of outdoor activities, depending on the season.
“There are so many things to do outdoors (around Portage,)” he said. “Mountain biking, camping and hiking, it also is a nice place to raise my family.” |
